One of the region’s largest manufacturing employers has declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The Oreck Corporation, a manufacturer of some of America’s best-known cleaning and air purification products, is consolidating its assets and restructuring its financing under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code to accommodate a sale as an ongoing business, according to a statement released by the company. The company has a manufacturing facility and a call center in Cookeville, employing 250 workers.

The company has had its share of lay-offs in the last few months. This tied in with their recent journey into a new mass marketing strategy about a year ago.

“Oreck will continue to operate in the ordinary course of business while the sale process takes place,” the statement went on to say.
