Fitness Training classes

Twin Lakes Wellness Center will offer Fitness Training classes beginning Monday, June 3 through August 3, 2013 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, for 12-15 year-olds. Cost is $15 for members and $40 for non-members per month. Each class will be supervised by one of our trainers. For more information contact the Wellness Center. 606-387-YMCA 31-3

Read and Feed Program
begins June 3

Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday the Clinton Co. Public Library is sponsoring a reading program for all children up to the age of (18) eighteen years old.

There will be story time, crafts, movies, and much more. At the end of the program each day there will be a free meal served to all children under the age of (18) eighteen years old, sponsored by the Summer Feeding Program.

Bring your children out and enjoy the adventures of reading and a good nutritional meal in a cool atmosphere. Dates will be: Mondays, June 3,10, 17, 24; Tuesdays, June 4, 11, 18, 25; Wednesdays, June 5, 12, 19, 26; Thursdays, closed; and Fridays, June 7, 14, 21, 28.

Meals are served from 11:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. All meals must be eaten on site (meals cannot be picked up or taken home).

The Clinton County Board of Education Summer Feeding Program invites all churches and organizations to participate in the Summer Feeding Program.

The program will begin on Monday, June 3 and end on Friday

June 28. Good, healthy and nutritious meals for children 18 years of ages and younger will be provided.

Fun For All Ages Program

A Fun For All Ages Program is being held on Tuesday nights from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Clinton County Public Library. There are kid friendly stories and nutrition related activities for youth. Library staff will be on hand to work with any adult wanting to learn more about computers, such as e-mail, internet and Microsoft. For more information, contact the Extension Office at 387-5404.

The Great Recipe Swap

Are you looking for new, tasty recipes to try? Then join the Great Recipe Swap! Come together with others just like yourself to share favorite recipes and cooking tips and techniques. The Swap will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 5-6 p.m. at the Clinton County Extension Office. For more information, call 387-5404. 31-2

Senior Health and Fitness Day

National Senior Health and Fitness Day is always set for the last Wednesday of May. National Senior Health and Fitness Day is the nation’s largest annual health promotion for older adults. 100,000 older adults will participate in activities throughout the U.S. The common goal for this day is to help keep older Americans healthy and fit. If you are 62 years or older come by the Wellness Center on Wednesday, May 29 and receive a free gift from us! 31-2

De-Clutter for Cause yard sale 

Want to get rid of your excess stuff, and in the process raise money to help those with cancer! A huge community yard sale will be held Friday, May 31 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Albany United Church of the Nazarene (behind Talbott Funeral Home). How can you help? Just drop off items you wish to donate at the following drop sites Monday through Thursday, May 27-30: State Farm office or Albany United Church of the Nazarene. All proceeds will be donated to help families and friends with cancer. 30-4 

First Annual Memorial Day Ride 

American Legion Post 137 invites all bikers to join us for the first annual memorial day ride on May 25. All proceeds go to pay for the Legion building. The ride begins at 12 noon at the Fentress County Courthouse located on the square in Jamestown, Tennessee and will end back at the courthouse square. Then there will be Bluegrass music on WDEB’s Bluegrass Saturday night and a cookout with hamburgers and hotdogs. The ride will be led by the 278th Tennessee Army National Guard. The Twin Lakes Family Wellness Center is offering the following fitness classes: 

* Mondays: Dancercise, 8:30 a.m.; cycling, 3:30 p.m.; Ab Ripper, 4:30-5 p.m.; cycling, 5 p.m.; Zumba, 6:15 p.m. 

* Tuesdays: Pilates/Yoga, 8:30 a.m.; Dancercise, 9:30 a.m.; Ab Ripper, 4:30 p.m.; cycling, 5 p.m.; Zumba (beginner), 6:15 p.m. 

* Wednesdays: Dancercise, 8:30 a.m. 

* Thursdays: Pilates/Yoga, 8:30 a.m.; Dancercise, 9:30 a.m.; Ab Ripper, 4:30 p.m.; cycling, 5 p.m.; Zumba, 6:15 p.m. 

* Friday: Dancercise, 8:30 a.m. 

Line Dancing from 5:30-7 p.m. every second Friday of each month. Free to members, $3.00 for non-members. Zumba classes with membership is $2.50 per class; non-members $5 per class. All other Group Fitness Classes are included in the membership. 

VA officer available 

Veterans Service Officer Earl Claborn is available to help veterans and their families with VA benefits. The office is located in the Clinton County Community Center. Office hours are Monday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information call 606-387-9447 

Free diabetes classes offered

Do you have diabetes? Feeling overwhelmed? Just want to feel better? We are here to help you each step of the way. The Clinton County Health Department will offer the four-step class, Learning to Control Diabetes–Step by Step each Tuesday in June (4th, 11th, 18th and 25th) from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. Sessions are free but pre-registration is required by calling 387-5711, ext. 1166.

Soil Conservation meeting

The Clinton County Soil Conservation District will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, May 23 at 10:30 a.m. in the conference room of the FSA/NRCS office. The meeting is open to the public.

Park Board meeting scheduled

The Clinton County Rec/Park Board will hold its regular meeting Thursday, May 30 at 6 p.m. at Mountain View Park. The meeting is open to the general public. 32-2

Class of 1958 reunion planned

The Clinton County High School Class of 1958 will hold its 55th anniversary reunion on Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 4-10 p.m. at the Dale Hollow Lake State Park. Lodging reservations at the park may be made by calling 800-325-2282. All class members are urged to attend, including members who started with the class but did not graduate, as well as spouses of deceased members. 21st Century Summer Camp

21st Century Summer Camp is June 3 through June 27, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Students will be having classes related to careers/career readiness, KY history, Science Technology Engineering Math skills, digital driver’s license, student technology program, and credit recovery. We will also be taking several area field trips. Any student who was enrolled in the Clinton County School System during the 2012-13 school year may attend if they were in grades 1-12. 5K Color Run for charity

A 5K Color Run, a charity run to benefit the Lake Area Foundation, will be held Saturday, June 8 at 3 p.m., starting and finishing at Mountain View Park in Albany.
