With the first of the big three summer related holidays already behind us and it looking like warm and hot weather finally arrived to stay for a while, the next big upcoming event for this area will be the 2013 version of the annual Clinton County Fair.

Although the fair board is still busy putting together a completed, set schedule of events along with the side items that go hand and hand with such as exhibits, 4-H and extension service programs, much of the main event schedule is put together for next month’s week-long plus program.

The primary fair week will run from June 17 through 22, however, events will begin as early as the previous Friday night, June 14 with a horse show.

That will be followed up with the annual Saturday morning and evening programs, June 15, with the baby show at 10 a.m. and the Little Miss and Mister and Pre-Teen pageants that evening beginning at 6 p.m.

Along with some returning favorite main event programs, there are some new programs and activities that will be noticeable as well.

An added attraction just for the children will be Lovey’s Kid’s Show, which will be on tap every night from Saturday, June 15 through the finale of the fair on June 22. There will be action packed shows, fantastic balloon creations and amazing face painting. Children of all ages will roar with laughter and excitement when the 2009 Female Clown of the Year, Lovey, comes into the circus ring.

Each night, along with the main events, which generally will begin at 8 p.m., preliminary events such as lawnmower pulls, pet shows, wrestling and more will be on tap, with most of those programs beginning around 6 p.m.

Another new event this year will be the archery competition that will be held on Monday night. That night, June 17, will feature the annual Miss Clinton County Fair pageant, preceded by the preliminary, younger age pageants in front of the grandstands.

Tuesday, the always popular family night will be held and this year, all veterans and senior citizens 62 or older will be admitted free. The exhibit hall will also be open that day for entries. A new farm scene and dog show obstacle course will be presented on that day.

The main event Wednesday will be the demolition derby. The exhibit hall will also be open that day as well in the main building.

Another new event is on hand for Thursday night, that being the KOI drag racing event, again with preliminary and alternative programs for fair-goers.

The annual tractor give-away will take place in the main building on Friday night, which will also feature an ATV/dirt bike rodeo and more.

The fair will conclude on Saturday, June 22 with the KTPA truck pull and will also feature wrestling in the show ring in front of the grandstands.

Tickets are also currently available for the tractor give-away. . Several prizes will be awarded, including cash prizes, with the final ticket drawn having the option of the tractor or $10,000 in cash. To get a ticket, see any fair board member.

More complete details about this year’s events will be published prior to the start of the fair and the annual Clinton County Fair preview special section, to be published in a couple of weeks, will highlight all programs and events, as well as include all rules and regulations associated with the fair programs.
