Even with ominous clouds and intermittent rain, a crowd of over one hundred people gathered at Wisdom, Kentucky to celebrate with Metcalfe County’s very own The Kentucky Headhunters in unveiling a road sign proclaiming Kentucky Highway 640 “The Kentucky Headhunter Highway.”

The beautiful gardens at the stately ancestral home of Richard and Cindy Young made a picturesque setting for the celebration. Small tables spread throughout the garden held photographs and other mementos of the illustrious career of the band. The recently-received award from the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame and the Grammy were displayed. White tents decorated in bright colored tables spread with delicious refreshments. The aroma of blooming flowers and the sound of Kentucky Headhunter music filled the air.

Edmonton-Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce President Jamie Howard gave the welcoming address and introduced Metcalfe County Judge/Executive Greg Wilson and Edmonton Mayor Howard Garrett who signed a proclamation declaring May 22 The Kentucky Headhunter Day in Edmonton/Metcalfe County. Each member of the band was presented with the signed proclamation.

Michael Pape, District Director for Congressman Ed Whitfield, read a proclamation that is recorded in the United States Congressional record honoring The Kentucky Headhunters for their accomplishments. Each member of the band was presented with the leather bound proclamation.

Kentucky State Representative Bart Rowland, who introduced the bill in the Kentucky Legislature to name KY Highway 640 “The Kentucky Headhunter Highway,” made a presentation of the actual bill to each member of the band.

Each presenter spoke of the many accomplishments of the band and the recognition they have brought to the state and the community. Each mentioned what the inspiration and success of this band is to young people to dream big, work hard, and see their dream fulfilled.

Greg Meredith, Chief Engineer for the Kentucky Transportation Department, Bowling Green office, assisted The Kentucky Headhunters in unveiling the road sign at Wisdom. Other signs are on Highway 640 near Summer Shade and Knob Lick.

Richard Young, speaking for the entire band, expressed their appreciation for the years of community support. “We could not have made it this far without all of you.”
