The investigation is continuing into two incidents of shots being fired at moving vehicles on Bypass 90, according to Monticello Police Chief Ralph Miniard.

Both incidences occurred in the early morning hours and resulted in broken glass in both vehicles. No injuries were reported in either incident, according to Miniard.

The first incident occurred on Tuesday, June 18 at about 4:10 a.m., when the driver’s side window was shot out of a vehicle. The second incident occurred on Wednesday, June 19 at approximately 3:07 a.m., when a window was shot out of another vehicle.

Miniard said the shots appear to have been fired from a high powered pellet gun.

Those two incidents occurred in the midst of numerous glass breakage incidents that the Monticello Police Department have been investigating for several weeks. Miniard said his department has received approximately 35 reports of glass being shot out of car windows and building windows this (June) month.

Police records indicate that these reports have come in nearly daily, with local businesses and churches falling victim to the shootings as well.

Miniard said that police have collected some vehicle descriptions that they are checking out, but many of the shooting incidents occurred in the early morning hours when there are no witnesses.

Miniard advised local residents to pay attention to their surroundings and to take note of any suspicious vehicles that may be located in the area. He urged the public to contact police with any information that may help with this investigation.
